My Faith Heroes

Bonhoeffer is at the top of my Faith HeroesI got asked today what inspired me to become a Minister (I won’t bother with the definition of that term and how it fits me since I don’t serve as a Pastor/Minister specifically within the local church capacity)… and I decided the answer to that question is less of a ‘what’ and more of a ‘who’. The answer is my faith heroes.

Here they are – my faith heroes that inspired me to listen to a small call even though my listening continues to be a faltering journey that will always be but a pale shadow of the legacy each of these men has left. It is their legacies alongside my growing understanding of the Christian faith that continue to shape what I do in the world. These, of course, are aside from Jesus himself. Bonhoeffer stands as the #1 inspiration. His letters and papers from prison stand as my most read collection of writings after the Bible. The rest are in no particular order:

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Oscar Romero

Francis of Assisi

Henri Nouwen

John Wesley
